SG Jobs News: SM Lee calls for renewed tripartite compact to help port workers adapt to AI and automation

Speaking at the Singapore Port Workers Union’s 80th anniversary dinner on 17 October, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong called for a renewed tripartite compact between the union, PSA management and the Government to safeguard jobs and help port workers keep reskilling for higher-value, technology-driven roles. He said rapid advances in AI, autonomous technology and robotics are already transforming port operations, with some repetitive physical tasks possibly taken over by machines in future, while new roles such as in sustainability and alternative fuels emerge. The union represents more than 10,000 members across PSA and port logistics firms.
