MOM’s advance figures released on 30 October show total employment rose by 27,700 in the third quarter, up from 11,400 in the second, while retrenchments climbed from 4,620 to 4,800, mostly due to business restructuring in outward-oriented sectors. The overall unemployment rate stayed at 2.0% in September, with resident and citizen rates edging up to 3.0% and 3.1%; more firms planned to hire and raise wages than in August, though fewer than in July, and the share expecting to retrench rose to 3.1%.
