Strategic Accounts Executive Resume Sample

· Keith Kwai

Strategic Accounts is about depth over volume. Your CV needs to show that you can own a complex, high-value customer relationship for the long term — growing it, protecting it, and making yourself difficult to replace.

What makes a strong Strategic Accounts Executive CV

Account growth, not just account retention

Keeping a strategic account is baseline. Growing it — expanding revenue, cross-selling, deepening the relationship across business units — is what distinguishes a true strategic accounts executive. Show the growth trajectory.

Show the complexity of the accounts you have managed

Number of stakeholders, number of business units, geographic spread, contract value, renewal cycle length — these dimensions help a hiring manager understand whether your experience matches the accounts they need managed.

Relationship map is a real skill

Managing a strategic account means navigating multiple stakeholders with different priorities. Show that you understood the relationship landscape and managed it deliberately.

Commercial acumen beyond account management

Understanding the customer’s business well enough to propose solutions before they ask for them is what separates strategic from transactional. If you have done this, describe how.

What to do

  • Show account revenue growth over your tenure with specific figures
  • Include account size, contract term, and renewal rate where possible
  • Demonstrate executive-level relationship management with named titles (not names)
  • Show how you handled at-risk accounts or commercial disputes
  • Include cross-sell or upsell revenue you generated from existing accounts

What to avoid

  • Describe account management as relationship maintenance only
  • List accounts without their commercial significance
  • Ignore renewal or retention metrics — they are core to the role
  • Conflate strategic accounts with general sales territory
  • Use ‘trusted advisor’ language without demonstrating what advice was given and what it produced

What a weak CV looks like

  • An account list with no revenue, no growth, and no outcome
  • Role descriptions that read as service delivery rather than commercial ownership
  • No evidence of proactive account development — only reactive client handling
  • Seniority in title with no evidence of executive stakeholder access

Knowing the principles is one thing. Applying them to your specific background, role, and target market is another. That is what we do at GetThatJob. See how we can help.
