SMU ageing researcher says workplace ageism and rigid post-retirement jobs must be tackled

At the sixth symposium of Singapore Management University’s Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) on 20 October, centre director Paulin Straughan said Singapore’s seniors need to keep working to age well, so ageist attitudes and rigid post-retirement job options must be addressed. She called for flexible, bite-size work suited to older workers’ strengths and fairly paid, and said the centre’s research found people as young as their 40s report that training opportunities stop coming their way, which she warned will backfire as the workforce shrinks.
For the rules behind post-retirement jobs, WorkRightSG, a sister site, sets out how re-employment works after the retirement age.
