The Ministry of Manpower says an inspection at Changi Airport found Employment Pass holders doing baggage handling work, and it is now investigating about 45 companies involved in airport operations over suspected false salary and occupation declarations and the deployment of around 270 workers, employed by SATS’ contractors and sub-contractors, outside their approved roles. MOM has told SATS to tighten its oversight of contractors, and notes that a false declaration in a work pass application can lead to a fine of up to $20,000, up to two years’ jail, or both.
