Career Switch in Singapore: A Practical Framework
· Keith Kwai
A structured way to change industries or functions without starting from zero — or taking a pay cut you don’t need to.
Start by mapping your transferable skills against the new function’s actual requirements, not its job title. A finance analyst moving into operations, for example, is usually closer to qualified than they think — forecasting, process control, and stakeholder reporting all transfer directly, even if the language on the job description looks unfamiliar.
Then close the visible gap, not the whole gap. One relevant certification, one project, or one well-told story from your current role is usually enough to get you past the resume screen — you don’t need to relearn a career before you’re allowed to switch it.
