Be brief and factual. Employers care less about the gap itself than about what you did during it and whether you are ready to contribute now. If the gap involved caregiving, freelance work, upskilling, or health recovery, state it plainly in one line. Never fabricate dates. A strong resume that follows the gap matters more than the explanation of it.

Wait until the employer raises it, or until you have an offer. If asked for your expected salary early, give a researched range based on MOM salary data and your target role level. Never anchor too low — it sets the ceiling for any negotiation.
